Designed for architects, planning consultants and property companies, this event will examine the legal framework for SuDS, what makes a good SuDS design and views from London planning authorities on how they want to see SuDS in action.

Speaker biographies

Sue Illman
Sue Illman is Managing Director of Illman Young, a landscape architectural practice based in Cheltenham, and was President of the Landscape Institute from 2012-2014. Whilst her practice works across most planning and development sectors, she is probably best known for her advocacy work promoting integrated water management and SuDS through inter-professional collaboration.

Catchment management alongside the integration of grey, green and blue in our urban landscape has never been more relevant, and is a subject that Sue continues to promote; a role that has been recognised in her current position as Champion for Flood Mitigation and Resilience on behalf of the Construction Industry Council (CIC). Sue was an author of the new SuDS Manual, launched in November 2015, and is currently lead author developing the new SuDS Construction guidance for CIRIA.

Heidi Copland
Heidi heads up the firm’s planning and environment group which is made up of both planners and solicitors. The team is highly regarded and has an enviable track record of success in delivering complex major development and regeneration projects both for public and private sector clients.

Heidi has a thorough knowledge of the planning process and the framework necessary to deliver development. She also has a particular specialism in the resolution of issues such as rights of way, village greens etc. which threaten to impact on development.

George Warren
George is the Flood Risk Manager for the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham (LBHF), responsible for all Lead Local Flooding Authority duties within the borough. He is also the Chairman of the London Drainage Engineering Group (LoDEG) which represents all 33 London LLFAs regarding flooding and drainage matters.

Prior to his current role George worked for a number of Engineering Consultancies, both in the UK and Australia where his focus was on water resource management and flood risk. He has been involved in the delivery of several award winning SuDS schemes as well as sitting on a variety of pan London steering groups.

Chris Taylor
A former founder of GroundSure, Technical Director at Argyll Environmental and Product Development Director at Landmark Information Group, Chris heads up Product Development as GeoSmart Information.
